PETAL is a playful structure, assembled from simple sun lounge chairs in a cylindrical arrangement, that mirrors the changing appearance of a flower between day and night. During the day, the structure appears “in full bloom” when the sun loungers are opened up to provide access to a 360 degree bar and seating area. At night, the chairs collapse to form a screen for colour or graphic projections.
PETAL pavilion was designed and built for CHART art fair 2023 taking place in Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen. Designed to be adaptable and easily disassembled, this proposal showcases how sustainable design can be beautiful, functional and responsible.

Similar to the changing apperance of a flower between day and night the concept for PETAL was to use the opening mechanism of the simple sun lounge chair to create a kinetic structure that could transform between being enterly closed or open.
CHART ART FAIR 2023
The pavilion was built for CHART art fair 2023 that took place in Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen between 24 - 27 th of August. CHART is a Nordic art event which every year invites leading Nordic galleries and artists to take part in the fair.
The pavilion was hosting for an wine and oyster bar during this years event.
CONCEPT
The main driving force behind the design of the pavilion was to use an everyday product in a new way, while still keeping the original functionality of the product. With the simple sun lounge chairs in mind the temporary pavilion is designed to be easy to assemble and disassemble, while using the functionality of the chair itself and the advantages it has of being able to be flat packed or folded out to an open structure.
Before the endlife of the pavilion, where the chairs again could be used as sun lounge chairs, we are currently looking for an afterlife of the pavilion.
